If you are one of those who usually use wireless headphones on a regular basis, it is likely that you are always looking for the most innovative ones and those that offer the best sound quality. In that case, you are interested in this review. In it, we compare four of the most advanced wireless headphones of the moment: Bose QuietComfort Ultra, Airpods Max, Sennheiser Momentum 4 and Beats Studio Pro. They are not exactly cheap headphones, but they are one of the most complete ones that exist.

Active noise cancellation and ambient mode are two of the common aspects between the four models. However, not all of them have the spatial audio option, this being one of the most relevant differences. Another differentiating element is the maximum autonomy that each one provides. Although this parameter is more subjective, since it depends on the use we make of the headphones, there are quite notable differences between them.

As you can imagine, Airpods Max are only compatible with Apple devices, showing off the hermeticism that characterizes them. Instead, the remaining three headphones are compatible with both iOS and Android. On the other hand, all headphones have several microphones, but some are capable of capturing sound better than others.

To check which of the four models best suits what you are looking for, we encourage you to read our article in detail. Do not miss it!

Same type of headphones in different colors

Bose QuietComfort Ultra vs Sennheiser Momentum 4 vs Beats Studio Pro vs Airpods Max

The four protagonists of our review are circumaural wireless headphones, shaped like a headband, which makes their design relatively similar, since all of them completely cover the ear. However, despite this there are some elements that allow us to easily distinguish them. The Airpods Max are the ones with a thinner headband, something that may be more comfortable for those with a smaller head. Furthermore, unlike the rest, the pads have a rather rectangular shape, not round like its three rivals.

The Sennheiser headphones also have a slightly thinner headband than the Bose and Beats, and this is made of padded fabric, which makes the feeling of wearing them very soft and comfortable. In addition, here we see the brand logo, while the Bose and the Beats have the logo superimposed on the headphones themselves. Finally, each of them is available in different colors.

Which one has better noise cancellation?

To be completely honest, we found two different levels between the four headphones. The Bose and Apple ones have the best active noise cancellation, although we cannot say that the Sennheiser and Beats are bad. Simply put, the Bose and AirPods Max are capable of better isolating outside noise, even at the lowest frequencies.

In fact, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra have 3 modes, one more than the 2 that are usually common. In addition to ANC and ambient mode, they have an immersion mode, which allows you to combine the two previous modes to your liking.

On the other hand, the AirPods Max have excellent performance when it comes to active noise cancellation, one of the strengths that Apple has worked the most on. For their part, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 and the Beats Studio Pro have very good active noise cancellation, only somewhat inferior to their two rivals in the lowest sounds.

Which headphones have the best audio quality?

In line with the previous point, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and the AirPods Max are the ones that offer almost unquestionable sound quality. This is because they have a total of 8 and 10 microphones, compared to the 4 that Sennheiser and Beats headphones have. This inevitably means that Bose and AirPods can transmit voice more clearly and accurately, in addition to identifying outside noises more effectively.

Spatial audio, a difference that leaves the Sennheisers behind

Beats Studio Pro vs Sennheiser Momentum 4 vs Bose QuietComfort Ultra vs Airpods Max

Of the four headphones featured in the review, only the Sennheiser lack the spatial or immersive audio function, a technology that reproduces sound in a more immersive way giving a greater sensation of realism. Although, to be honest, Apple’s technology stands out here. In fact, both the AirPods Max and the Beats Studio Pro (remember that Beats is an Apple brand) offer spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, going a step further and guaranteeing equally deep sound no matter where you turn your head. .

Which model wins in autonomy?

One of the most interesting aspects for users of wireless headphones is precisely how long the battery lasts on a single charge. In this sense, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 are the ones with the highest maximum autonomy, up to 6 hours with ANC activated, an autonomy that is quite difficult to beat. They are followed by the Beats Studio Pro, with up to 40 hours (without ANC), and the Bose and AirPods, which offer about 20-24 hours of autonomy. Regarding the charging time, it should be noted that it ranges between 1.5 and 3 hours in all three cases.

Are they compatible with all devices?

You already know that Apple is a fairly hermetic brand when it comes to compatibility, and the AirPods Max are no exception. Therefore, they are the only ones that are only compatible with iOS devices. The other three headphones can connect with both iOS and Android. However, you should keep in mind that the Beats Studio Pro has more functionality with iOS.

Touch and voice controls

Another factor that can help you decide which headphones to keep is the comfort when handling them. In this sense, all four models have touch controls, so that, depending on the touches you give, you will execute a different action. Likewise, all of them are compatible with voice control, so there are no differences in this regard either.

In fact, all four can be synchronized with any other device via Bluetooth, with a range of between 9 and 10 meters. Not all of them are compatible with the same version, but, in practice, the difference is barely noticeable, because they can connect with almost any device.

Which wireless headphones do we choose?

After having analyzed in detail the advantages and disadvantages of the four models of wireless headphones, we must decide which ones best suit what we are looking for. As we have told you, there are two large “groups” among these four. On the one hand, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra and AirPods Max have a higher price, but they stand out in active noise cancellation and audio quality.

On the other hand, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 and the Beats Studio Pro are somewhat more affordable (they are not the cheapest on the market, mind you), although the active noise cancellation does not reach the level of what their two rivals have. It’s not bad at all; It’s just not that good. Between these two headphones, perhaps we would stick with the Beats, because they also have custom spatial audio. And, although the autonomy of the Sennheiser is the highest, it helps us that all of them last at least one day.

In addition, other external factors must be taken into account. For example, if you are passionate about the Apple environment, it is likely that the ones that will catch your attention the most are the AirPods Max. On the other hand, if you don’t have an iPhone, opt for the Bose QuietComfort Ultra, because the AirPods Max are only compatible with iOS devices. That said, think about what aspects are priority for you and choose which of the four wireless headphones brings them all together.
