From a few years ago until now, the mobile phone has become a device with which we do practically everything every day. For some people, it has even become their work tool when recording content. In these cases, the quality of the images that are recorded is essential for professional performance, although there are also more and more people who want to have professional recordings for pleasure. In these cases, having an image stabilizer is crucial. Therefore, today we compare two of the best sellers on Amazon to see which one is better. We are talking about the DJI OSMO Mobile 6 and SE stabilizers.

We already told you that there are many similarities that these two stabilizers share. In fact, DJI launched them on the market a few months apart, and the truth is that at first there was quite a bit of confusion because the differences were few. But there are differences, and now let’s see which ones. For example , the DJI OSMO Mobile 6 can extend the integrated arm up to 21cm, something the SE cannot do.

Another differentiating aspect is the battery, although here we must clarify some important things that we will tell you later. In addition, there is another substantial difference that has to do with the inclination range. Both stabilizers are triaxial, that is, they have three axes of movement. Of the three, rotation and panning are most similar, but in the degree of tilt there is a clear winner, the DJI OSMO Mobile SE.

However, we are going to go into detail about the most significant differences that we have detected between the two DJI stabilizers so that you can choose the one that best suits your preferences. Go for it!

Let’s analyze the aesthetic differences

DJI OSMO Mobile SE vs 6

First, we look at the design of the two image stabilizers to compare the most important differences. The DJI OSMO Mobile 6 is sold in two shades of gray, one light and one dark. Instead, the SE model is only available in a light gray.

In terms of size, it should be noted that the OSMO Mobile 6 is taller than the SE, but being narrower makes it feel more portable. In fact, it weighs 50 grams less, so if you usually carry it in your bag, it’s a plus.

As a curiosity, the DJI OSMO Mobile 6 has a side wheel to control the zoom that is quite practical and more precise. Of course, both have a magnetic clamp and a case to carry the stabilizer. Likewise, both have a small screen where you can see how much battery is left.

The extendable arm, advantage for the 6

As we mentioned in the introduction, some differences between the two image stabilizers are quite subtle, and one of the most important is the extendable arm. The DJI OSMO Mobile 6 has an integrated arm that can be extended by 21.5 centimeters, allowing you to more comfortably record more open shots. On the other hand, the DJI OSMO Mobile SE has an arm, but it is not extendable. As you can see, it is not a crucial difference when it comes to quality, but it is a difference in comfort.

Compatible smartphones

DJI OSMO Mobile 6 vs SE

When we are going to choose which image stabilizer to buy, it is essential that we check that our smartphone is compatible with it. How do you do this? Checking the measurements that each model supports, which, in this case, are identical. Thus, both the DJI OSMO Mobile 6 and the SE are valid for smartphones weighing between 170 and 290 grams, with a width of 67-84 millimeters. In reality, they are compatible with the vast majority of models out there, including iPhones. Even so, it is always a good idea to make sure.

The battery, another of the main differences

We come to what is, for us, the most “deceptive” difference of all, and we are going to explain why. The DJI OSMO Mobile 6 has a 1,000 mAh battery that allows a battery life of about 6 and a half hours. For its part, the DJI OSMO Mobile SE has a 2600 mAh battery, whose autonomy is about 8 hours. A priori we would say that the winner is the SE, because it offers more autonomy of use.

But, if you think about it, how is it possible that the Mobile SE, with more than double the battery capacity, only has an hour and a half more autonomy? Mainly, because the three motors it has are larger than those of the 6 and consume more battery.

That is, the DJI OSMO Mobile SE has more autonomy, but the weight of its battery also increases the total weight of the stabilizer. The question is whether, due to the use you are going to make of the stabilizer, you are really going to take advantage of that extra hour and a half or not.

The angle of inclination, a key factor

We have already said that the two DJI image stabilizers that we are analyzing work based on 3 axes: tilt, rotation and pan. We assume that the mechanical range, that is, the range of degrees that the stabilizer can move in each direction, is not identical in any of the three axes. In rotation and panning the difference is minimal. However, the same does not happen in inclination.

To give you an idea, the DJI OSMO Mobile 6 has an approximate flexibility of about 180º of inclination, while the DJI OSMO Mobile SE rises to about 340º. How do we notice the difference? In the videos that we record in vertical format. If you’re traveling, you’ll be able to record tall buildings much more stably with the Mobile SE than with the Mobile 6.

Smart modes and functions

DJI OSMO Mobile 6 vs Mobile SE

We now compare the variety of preconfigured modes that you can choose from, although they are the same in both cases. Both have 4 stabilizer modes (Tracking, Fixed Tilt, FPV and SpinShot) and 8 capture modes (Hyperlapse, Timelapse, Dynamic Zoom, Slow Motion, Video, Photo, Panorama and Story).

In addition, both are compatible with the DJI Mimo app, from which you can access photo and video editing functions, such as SpinShot. And, on the other hand, the two stabilizers have ActiveTrack 6.0, a functionality that allows you to follow the central subject of the video even if it moves.

To highlight the only difference that we have found in this section, the DJI OSMO Mobile 6 has a quick start function, unlike the OSMO Mobile SE. That is, it turns on only by unfolding it, a point in favor of comfort.

What image stabilizer do we recommend?

Now that we have analyzed in detail the differences and similarities between the two DJI image stabilizers, it is time to decide which one we would choose. The OSMO Mobile 6 has a higher price than the SE, but it has some advantages, such as the extendable arm, the side wheel for more precise zoom control, and the possibility of quick start.

On the other hand, the DJI OSMO Mobile SE has a longer battery life and, what for us is its main advantage, a greater mechanical tilt range. The extra autonomy it has does not seem so relevant to us because, in reality, the 6 and a half hours that the Mobile 6 lasts seem more than enough to us.

Therefore, we would say that the DJI OSMO Mobile SE is better value for money, but the OSMO Mobile 6 has technical improvements that raise the level of comfort and professionalism of the stabilizer a little. From here, only you can decide which one best suits your limitations and preferences.
