If you are thinking about changing your dryer and you are not sure which one to choose, it is likely that you have come across these two brands, as they are two of the leaders in the sector. Therefore, in this article, we are going to show you a comparison between two high-end dryers that are among the best sellers on Amazon. We are talking about the GHD Air vs Parlux Alyon, two titans that, although they are not the cheapest dryers, are among the best you can find.

One of the characteristics that demonstrate this is its high power, which exceeds 2000 watts in both cases. Likewise, the air flow is also excellent in both cases, although here GHD does not provide specific data as Parlux does, so we rely on practice. Another difference between them is the number of speeds and temperatures. The GHD Air has 3 speeds and 3 temperatures, while the Parlux Alyon has 4 temperatures and 2 speeds.

On the other hand, the length of the cable is not the same either, although there is not a very significant difference. Even so, the Parlux Alyon has a small advantage over the cable, and that is that it has an integrated cable holder. This dryer is also available in 9 colors, while the GHD Air can only be purchased in black. However, to be clear about all their similarities and differences, we encourage you to read our review carefully.

Design and colors, the first difference

ghd air vs parlux alyon

It is inevitable that the first thing we look at when we compare two devices, of any type, is their design. In this case, each dryer has the seal of its brand impregnated. The GHD Air is matte black, but maintains some GHD’s own light silver shiny touches. It is larger than the Parlux Alyon, and consequently weighs more. We really like the nozzle that the GHD has, which is somewhat thinner than that of the Parlux. In addition, it has two integrated nozzles.

In the case of the Parlux Alyon, it is available in 9 different colors, and has a more youthful and modern design than the GHD. It is lighter, and that is always a plus point in case you travel with the dryer. Likewise, the handle of this dryer has a more curved shape, while that of the GHD is straighter. And, if you touch it, you will notice that the Parlux Alyon has an embossed design, although the color is a little more muted than the GHD (speaking of black, which is the only one we can compare).

As for the accessories they include, neither is equipped with a diffuser, which you will have to purchase separately. And, on the other hand, the GHD dryer has universal voltage, while the Parlux one has European voltage.

Ionic technology in both

Another characteristic that we usually look at in more detail is whether the dryers have ionic technology, since it is essential for the hair to frizz as little as possible. We already told you that both the GHD Air and the Parlux Alyon have very effective ionic technology, which is one of the reasons why their price rises higher.

One thing that has caught our attention is that GHD does not provide specific information about air flow, which is another parameter that is always compared between dryers. Parlux does advise that the Alyon has a flow rate of 84 m3/h, but GHD simply says that it has an air flow twice as powerful as standard dryers. After having tried it, we sense that it is a level quite similar to that of the Parlux.

Temperature and speeds, variable

GHD Air vs Parlux Alyon hair dryer

We continue analyzing the most significant differences between the two dryers, and we come to two of the aspects that most often vary: temperature and speed. The GHD Air has 3 speeds and 3 temperatures, while the Parlux Alyon has 2 speeds and 4 temperatures. What is better? It depends. On the one hand, GHD is a brand that takes great care in optimizing temperature, and has designed technologies that allow it to reach the maximum temperature without damaging the hair.

On the other hand, if we analyze our normal use of the dryer, we always use the same speed, but we vary the temperature a little more depending on whether we want to dry our hair faster or if we want to set the hairstyle. In this sense, we are more convinced by the Parlux proposal, since the range of temperatures to choose from is a little wider. Of course, both dryers have a cold air button.

How long is the cable?

Cord length is an important factor when choosing a dryer. Keep in mind that you will always have to plug it into the electrical current to use it, so the longer the cable, the more space it will give you. The GHD Air has a 2.7 meter cable (which is the brand’s standard length for both hair dryers and hair straighteners). The Parlux Alyon has a 3.3 meter cable, half a meter longer. The difference could be greater, but half a meter is noticeable. In addition, it has an integrated cable holder.

Type of filtration, advanced in both cases

Parlux Alyon vs GHD Air

The filtration and cleaning system is different in each dryer, but effective in both cases. The GHD Air has a very interesting patented air filter that we have already tested in many of its dryers and that keeps the motor quite clean for longer. The Parlux Alyon, for its part, integrates the HFS system (Hair Free System). Basically, make sure that no hair remains on the filter that hinders its ability to retain particles.

Which dryer is more worth it?

Now that you know what the main differences and similarities of both dryers are, it’s time to think about which one you would choose. Being completely honest, we have many doubts. On the one hand, GHD never fails, and it is really difficult to design a dryer that matches the efficiency and near perfection that GHD dryers have.

The “problem” is that Parlux gets it. It is a dryer with a little more power, with more temperature levels, it has a longer cable and maintains the ionic technology. In addition, it has a good filtration system, and its design proposal is more cheerful. Of course, looking at the price of both, we see that the Parlux dryer is a little more expensive, although the difference is not very significant.

Therefore, if you prefer to bet on the GHD, which is guaranteed and has a good quality-price ratio, the result will be very satisfactory. And, if you want to test the Parlux and see if it really outperforms the GHD, you will also get optimal performance. In short, think about which of the two has characteristics that best fit what you are looking for and decide. With both you will have the feeling of having made a good purchase.
