The hair straighteners that we used 20 years ago do not have much to do with those we see on the market today. The evolution of heat technologies, the type of plates and the efficiency achieved by sensors means that today we can choose between almost intelligent hair straighteners. In this article, we show you a comparison between four of the most advanced models that exist: GHD Platinum+ vs Corioliss C3 vs L’Oreal Steampod 3.0 vs Dyson Corrale.

The differences between them are more than evident, and we are going to analyze them in detail below. As an introduction, we will tell you that the GHD, Corioliss and L’Oreal irons are within the same price range, but the Dyson Corrale stands out completely. You already know that Dyson is an expensive brand, but is a price of more than 600 euros for a hair straightener justified? Spoiler: it is the only one of the four that can be used with or without cable.

There is another important difference, in this case, between the L’Oreal straightener and the others. The Steampod 3.0, as we can deduce from its name, runs on steam. On the other hand, the technology used by the other three irons is the one usually used, through direct heating of the plates. Of course, they use technologies such as Ultra-zone in the case of the GHD or intelligent control technology in the case of the Dyson to prevent hair from frizzing.

These are just some of the most relevant differences that we have found between these four hair straighteners, but there are many more. If you want to discover which of them is perfect for you, don’t miss our review!

Heating technology, substantial difference

GHD Platinum+ vs Corioliss C3 vs L'Oreal Steampod 3.0 vs Dyson Corrale

Normally, we usually talk about the design first, but, in this case, it seems more important to talk about one of the most important differences we have found. Basically, because the hair straightener you choose depends on it. The GHD Platinum+, Corioliss C3 and Dyson Corrale are hair straighteners that work using a more traditional plate heating system .

The GHD uses Ultra-zone predictive technology, through which it takes the temperature about 250 times per second to always maintain a homogeneous temperature. The Corioliss C3 uses an infrared heating system , combined with nanotechnology of silver particles and negative ions. For its part, the Dyson Corrale also has intelligent temperature control.

But what about the L’Oreal Steampod 3.0? This hair straightener works with steam technology, and for this it has a water tank integrated into the straightener itself (hence it is heavier than the rest). The difference is that it uses a continuous flow of high pressure which also activates the pro-keratin, which makes the result smoother. Of course, it may take you longer to straighten your hair.

Maximum temperature and regulation

Another aspect that may influence your decision is what temperature the four hair straighteners can reach, at most. And not only that, but how many intensity levels we can choose. Well, here the iron that stands out is the GHD Platinum+, because it is the only one in which only a single temperature is constantly maintained, 185º C. That is, the sensors it has are responsible for always keeping the plates at that temperature. , which, according to the brand, is the most suitable for not damaging the hair and achieving the most optimal results.

The Corioliss C3 can reach a maximum temperature of 235º C, and, in this case, we can regulate it in 4 temperature levels (135º, 180º, 210º and 235º). The L’Oreal Steampod 3.0 has 5 temperature levels, ranging from 170º C to 210º C. Finally, the Dyson Corrale has 3 temperature levels, 160º C, 185º C and 210º C.

Can they be used wirelessly?

Dyson Corrale vs GHD Platinum+ vs Corioliss C3 vs L'Oreal Steampod 3.0

Only the Dyson Corrale is designed to be used corded or cordless, although only for approximately 30 minutes. It can be a plus if you have an event outside and want to bring the iron to touch up. In addition, you should know that the full charge of the high-density battery in the Dyson iron takes about 70 minutes.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the Dyson is the one that, although it can be used wirelessly, has the longest cable, more than 4 meters. This guarantees that you can use it in any room, even if there are few sockets. The GHD Platinum+ has a 2.7 meter cable; the Corioliss plank reaches 3 meters; and the L’Oreal iron has approximately 2 meters of cable.

What are the plates like and how long do they take to heat up?

The heating time is quite similar in three of the hair straighteners that are the subject of our review. T he GHD Platinum+, Corioliss C3 and Dyson Corrale take 20 and 35 seconds to heat up respectively. In the case of the L’Oreal Steampod 3.0, the plates take about 90 seconds to heat up, but this is because what really takes to heat up is the water.

And, if we look at the plates, we see some curious differences to take into account. For example, the plates of GHD and Corioliss irons are tilting, while those of Dyson are, depending on the brand, flexible. The Dyson straightener has plates that are made of a copper and manganese alloy, and have the ability to “bend” to adapt much better to the shape of the hair and so that the tension is applied more realistically to our hair. This means that, with a lower temperature, the same results can be achieved as other solid plates that need to be heated more.

In the case of the GHD and L’Oreal straighteners, the plates are ceramic, while the Corioliss C3 has titanium plates. In addition, the L’Oreal Steampod 3.0 has a comb integrated into the plates, which is through which it emits water vapor to straighten or curl your hair. Finally, it should be noted that all four have a fairly similar width, about 2.5 cm.

Automatic suspension, but at different times

Corioliss C3 vs GHD Platinum+ vs L'Oreal Steampod 3.0 vs Dyson Corrale

All four hair straighteners we are reviewing have the ability to turn themselves off if they detect downtime. The difference is knowing how much time must pass for this. In the case of the GHD Platinum+ and the L’Oreal Steampod 3.0, 30 minutes must pass for the iron to turn off. The Corioliss C3 is the slowest in this sense, because it waits two hours. On the other hand, the Dyson Corrale will enter this mode if 10 minutes of inactivity pass.

Additional features: voltage, screen and case

Before finishing, we want to highlight some differences that are also important and that you should not overlook. One of them is the voltage, which indicates whether a hair straightener can be used in both Europe and the United States (you already know that the voltage system is different). Well, all of them have universal or dual voltage except the L’Oreal Steampod 3.0, which has European voltage. Therefore, you could not take this iron on a trip to the United States without a voltage converter.

It also does not have a built-in case, like the GHD Platinum+, although you can buy it as a separate accessory. The Corioliss and the Dyson Corrale, on the other hand, are equipped with a case to transport them. Finally, we highlight that the Dyson is the only hair straightener that has a small OLED screen to see the battery level and the selected temperature.

Which hair straightener would we choose?

Now that you know what all the differences are between the three hair straighteners, it’s time to choose which one to choose. The price is a decisive factor in this case, and, although the Dyson Corrale is the only wireless one and has very advanced technology, the price difference seems excessive to us. We are talking about the fact that the price of the Dyson Corrale is more than double that of the rest of the irons. However, the functionalities are not so different as to justify this price increase, at least from our point of view.

On the other hand, it is important that you decide if you want a steam hair straightener or one with normal operation. In this sense , one of the aspects that can help you decide is if you have fragile hair or if you have stronger hair. Hair that tends to break will tolerate the direct heat of the plates less well, and, in these cases, it could be interesting to opt for the L’Oreal Steampod 3.0.

Otherwise, we are much more convinced by the performance and value for money of the GHD Platinum+. But, as we always tell you, only you have the last word.
