Reading is one of the greatest pleasures we have at our disposal. There is nothing better than enjoying a cup of coffee and reading to escape from reality or to embark on an exciting story. But it is undeniable that times change and, perhaps, the way of doing things too. This was very well seen by Amazon, which quickly monopolized the market for what is known as an electronic book or Kindle, if we refer to its devices.
Specifically, we are going to talk about the Kindle Oasis, the most advanced to date, and the Kindle Paperwhite, a mid-range device for those looking for the best quality at the lowest price.
Therefore, we are going to explain each and every one of the differences between both models and reveal which of the two Kindles is the one that gets the most muscle.

Design: Kindle Oasis is more comfortable in our opinion
We begin this analysis by talking about the visual aspect of these Kindle models.
Observing the comparative table, we see how the Kindle Oasis is slightly lighter than the Paperwhite, although it is not a noticeable difference.
Where we find the most noticeable difference is in the concept itself of each Kindle. We can see how the Paperwhite has a more standard shape, comfortable but not an innovation compared to previous models. The Kindle Oasis is committed to a revolution in shapes, incorporating an asymmetrical side with buttons that help us turn the page and hold the device.
The Kindle Oasis beats the Paperwhite in comfort.
As for the colors in which we have the possibility of acquiring each device, the Kindle Oasis is available in graphite and gold, while the Kindle Paperwhite is only available in black.
Screen and reading aids: Kindle Oasis wins
The first thing that draws attention is the larger screen of the Kindle Oasis, 7 “versus 6.8”, which is always a plus in this type of device. To this we must add that to turn the pages on the Paperwhite you have to put your fingers on the screen, while on the Oasis it is not necessary thanks to the side buttons.
Other features present in the Kindle Oasis is the option to use automatic screen rotation and automatic light adjustment, which will allow us to enjoy reading even in changing situations such as traveling by train or car. The Kindle Paperwhite does not have these features.
Instead, both devices offer 300 dpi (dots per inch) resolution and a built-in LED light. However, the Kindle Oasis once again stands out by presenting a 25-LED light compared to the 5 LEDs available on the Kindle Paperwhite.
Autonomy and capacity: lights and shadows for each one
We can see how in the comparative table there is an asterisk in this field. We will explain why soon.
But first, it should be noted that the battery of both Kindle models is excellent, although obviously not as much as specified in the table. That is the reason for the asterisk.
If we visit the official Amazon page and look for the autonomy of both devices, we find that the duration is measured, and this is textual, “taking as reference a reading habit of half an hour a day with the wireless connection disconnected and the brightness of the light defined at level 13”. That is, if we exceed these parameters, autonomy will be reduced.
However, taking this yardstick into account, the Kindle Paperwhite offers up to 10 weeks of autonomy, surpassing the 6 weeks of the Oasis.
When it comes to charging time, the Kindle Oasis comes out on top, getting a full charge in about 3 hours, compared to 5 for the Paperwhite.
Speaking of water resistance, both devices have the IPX8 certificate, which guarantees a resistance of up to 60 minutes at a depth of two meters.
We end this section by referring to storage capacity. Both the Kindle Oasis and the Kindle Paperwhite offer a capacity of 8Gb, although models that increase that capacity up to 32Gb can be purchased, although the price obviously increases in both cases.
Connectivity: Kindle Oasis wins again
We end this comparison by talking about the ability to connect both devices.
Both the Kindle Paperwhite and the Oasis allow Wi-Fi connection, although a version of the Oasis model incorporates free mobile connectivity, which is always a point in its favor.
Our final assessment
Now that we have analyzed each of the characteristics of both models we can give an informed verdict.
The Kindle Oasis seems to us to be the most complete model and the one worth investing in if we want to take advantage of all the capabilities of a good electronic book. It has several automated functions that make our lives easier, it is lighter and more comfortable to hold, so every dollar invested is worth it.
However, if we want to make a decision taking our pocket into account, then the Kindle Paperwhite is the most interesting option. It is evident that it is a bit behind the Oasis model, but even so it is still a good device that will fulfill its function perfectly.
