The Philips range of pulsed light epilators, also known as IPL epilators, is one of the most extensive on the market. If you look closely, each range has several different models, between which the main difference is usually the number of accessories. But, are there any other differences that you should take into account to choose the most suitable epilator? In this article we wanted to check it, and to do so, we analyzed three epilators from the Philips Lumea 7000 range. Specifically, the models BRI921/00, BRI923/00 and SC1999/00.

A priori, we can think that, since the third model has a different nomenclature, there are more changes with respect to the first two. However, we already told you that the only difference there is, in reality, is the variety of accessories that each epilator has. In fact, the Philips Lumea 7000 BRI923/00 and SC1999/00 epilators have the same price, which is a little higher than the price of the BRI921/00. And this is due exclusively to the accessories.

For the rest of the features, we are looking at the same IPL epilator. All three have a maximum of 250,000 light pulses, which, according to Philips, corresponds to a useful life of about 20 years (this depends a lot on the frequency of treatment, of course). Furthermore, in the three models you can choose between 5 intensity levels, and this is important, because it is not a type of epilator suitable for all skin types.

In short, the best way to know which of the three Philips Lumea 7000 epilators is best for you is to analyze them in detail. Do you want to know the particularities of each one? Keep reading!

What accessories does each IPL epilator have?

Philips Lumea SC1999/00 vs BRI921/00 vs BRI923/00

As we have anticipated, this is the main difference that exists between the three Philips Lumea 7000 models that we have chosen, the variety of accessories that each one has. The Philips Lumea 7000 BRI921/00 and SC1999/00 have three accessories each, but they are not the same. Both are equipped with a specific head for removing body hair and another precision head for facial hair. The BRI921/00 adds, as a third accessory, a trimming pencil ideal for plucking eyebrows, while the SC1999/00 has a head for the bikini line, but no trimming pencil.

And the Philips Lumea 7000 BRI923/00 ? It is the most complete and has 4 accessories. In fact, it adds everything that the other two epilators have, and it has a head for the body, another for the bikini line, another for facial hair, and it also has the trimming pen. Likewise, all three IPL epilators have a cover, although there are differences between the covers of the BRI921/00 and 921/00 epilators and the third. The first two have a larger, rigid case-type case, while the Philips Lumea 7000 SC1999/00 has a kind of storage bag, it is not a case.

Aesthetically, all three have a very similar design, and can only be used with a cable. In the case of the Philips Lumea 7000 BRI, both have the same design, mixing white with bronze, and with the same weight and dimensions. For its part, the Philips Lumea 7000 SC1999/00 has a slightly longer handle and the upper part is rose gold, instead of bronze. In addition, it is somewhat lighter.

Number of flashes and intensity

Another important aspect to take into account when we are evaluating which IPL hair remover to buy is the maximum number of flashes or pulses of light that it can emit. In this case, the three Philips Lumea 7000 can emit up to 250,000 light pulses during their useful life. To give you an idea, Philips assures that it is equivalent to about 20 years of treatment in the clinic, although this depends on the frequency and even the type of skin.

And, in case you didn’t know, the effectiveness of IPL epilators is not the same for everyone, because it depends on the skin tone and the type of hair each person has. In fact, IPL epilators require a certain contrast between the pigment that gives color to the skin and that of the hair. All three models have a sensor capable of measuring your skin tone. Thus, you can choose between 5 intensity levels. If the sensor detects that the tone is not suitable for this treatment, it will stop flashing. Normally, there is no problem on skin with a white to dark brown tone, but it is not so ideal for darker skin.

Areas in which the epilator can be used

It is important to keep in mind that, although the Philips epilators that we have chosen do not have a specific accessory for the armpit area, it does not mean that you cannot use the body accessory on them. The difference is that it may not be as precise and requires more light pulses, but hair removal can be done in the same areas.

Therefore, with any of the three epilators you can reduce hair on the body, face, bikini line and armpits. It is true that, with the BRI921/00, it will be more difficult to do it in the bikini line, an area for which it is advisable to have the specific accessory due to its high sensitivity.

As for the time you should apply, it varies according to each area. To give you a reference, it will take approximately 15 minutes to shave both mid-legs, 4 minutes on the bikini line, and between 2 and 2.5 minutes on the armpits and facial hair. This, of course, depends on the type of hair each person has and the tone.

How many sessions do you need for it to be noticed?

This is another of the most common doubts that usually arise among people who have not used an IPL epilator before. And, as always, it depends on each person. If you have skin that is grateful to this treatment, it is likely that, in three sessions, you will already notice the results. On the other hand, if your skin is darker or more sensitive, you may need a few more sessions. In this sense, it is interesting to keep in mind that the results can last up to 1 year, although a reminder will have to be done every 2-3 months, depending on the type of skin.

Setup with the Philips app

The action of the Philips Lumea 7000 epilators can be complemented with the personalized advice and suggestions that you can find in the Philips Lumea app. In it, you will be able to plan your treatment exactly depending on your individual characteristics and your skin, and you will receive personalized advice.

Which Philips Lumea 7000 IPL epilator has the best value for money?

You have already seen that the three epilators we have chosen are very similar to each other, the main difference being the variety of accessories that each one has. Therefore, it will be easier than you think to choose, since what you should think about most is what accessories you think you will need. The technology and efficiency is the same in all three cases, so our recommendation is that you stick exclusively to the accessories to choose from.

Now, we have a fairly clear opinion in this case. First of all, the BRI923/00 and SC1999/00 epilators have the same price, but the SC has one less accessory (it does not have a trimmer). Therefore, among them, we would stick with the BRI923/00, which, for the same price, has one more accessory. The next question we must resolve when choosing between the two BRI epilators is: is it worth staying with the one with one more accessory?

In this case, we think so, because the additional accessory that the BRI923/00 has is the head for the bikini line, which is the one that we think is most necessary if you want to hair remove the area specifically. Could you do it with the standard head? Yes, but with less precision and using more light pulses. Therefore, taking into account that the BRI921/00 also has the three accessories of the BRI921/00 and adds the bikini line accessory, our advice is to opt for this model within the Philips Lumea 7000 range.
