Super-automatic coffee makers have become an essential accessory in many kitchens, including ours. Getting up and enjoying an intense, super aromatic coffee with just one click is a joy. For this reason, we are always looking for the best coffee makers on the market, and, without a doubt, one of the reference brands is Philips. Today we wanted to compare four of the best-selling Philips super-automatic coffee machines: the 5400, 4300, 3200 and 2200 models.

In general terms, we could say that they are medium-high range coffee makers. To be completely fair, the Philips Series 3200 and 2200 would be mid-range coffee makers, while the 5400 and 4300 would be high-end. However, although they have some differences, we must recognize that they share more similarities than we expected. For example , all four coffee makers have a LatteGo system, so in all of them we can prepare milk and cappuccino-type coffees. In addition, all of them have a ceramic grinder with 12 grinding levels.

The degree of intensity, for example, is one of the differentiating aspects, although it is not the only one. The Philips Series 5400 is the one that allows you to prepare the most variety of drinks, with up to 12 options, while the Philips Series 2200 has only 4. Likewise, another differentiating element that makes the Philips 5400 and 4300 a higher range is that they have guest profiles, unlike the Philips Series 3200 and 2200.

However, as we always tell you, the best way to check which of the Philips super-automatic coffee machines is better is to compare them. So, if you want to know which one to choose, read our review!

No changes to design, power and pressure

Philips Series 5400 vs 4300 vs 3200 vs 2200

The style of the coffee maker is the first thing we see, and, in this case, it is undeniable that the four coffee makers are from the same brand, because they have practically the same design. In fact, the dimensions and weight are exactly the same, so it won’t be a major deal breaker. This also happens with other parameters that, a priori, may be more important, such as power and pressure. However, experience tells us that, in this type of coffee makers, they are less decisive.

Mainly, because they tend to be the same in all of them, as is the case in this case. The four Philips coffee makers have a maximum power of 1500 watts and a pressure of 15 bars. To give you an idea, any coffee maker with more than 1000 watts and 9 bars has good performance. The only difference is that the Philips 3200 has a white top, which gives it a little more brightness.

If we look at the capacity of the internal deposits, we see that it is identical in all four. Thus, the tank where the water is placed has a capacity of 1.8 liters, while the tank for coffee beans is 275 grams. When it comes to height adjustment, you will be interested to know that, in all coffee makers, you can fit larger cups. This is because the height can be adjusted between 85 and 145 mm, depending on the height of the cup.

LatteGo system in all

When we think about which super-automatic coffee maker to buy, one of the things we look at is whether they have a built-in milk system to be able to make cappuccino-type coffees. Philips equips these four coffee makers with its LatteGo system. Basically, it is a type of container with a lid into which the milk is placed and from which, through an internal conduit, the coffee maker incorporates it into the drink. For this reason, the four jugs have the same capacity, 250 ml, as it is a single system for all Philips coffee machines.

Regarding coffees with milk, we must note something important. You will see that all the coffee makers we have chosen have a double outlet to make two coffees at the same time, but these cannot be with milk. Because? Because, when we select a coffee with milk, the coffee maker uses both pipes for the same coffee, which makes it impossible to make two simultaneously. Come on, if you want to make two coffees at the same time, these must be espressos.

Grind and intensity settings

Philips Series 5400 vs 3200 vs 2200 vs 4300

If you’re wondering if you can choose the grind level you want, the answer is yes. The four Philips coffee machines have a highly resistant ceramic grinder, with 12 grinding levels. The more intense you like your coffee, the finer it should be, although we always advise you to start with a medium level and adjust to your taste.

When it comes to intensity levels, we are starting to see differences. The Philips Series 5400 and 4300 have 5 intensity levels, which are reduced to 3 levels in the case of the Philips Series 3200 and 2200. However, the temperature positions are the same in all of them, with up to 3 positions. And, be careful, because if you want to use already ground coffee, you can do it in any of them.

What varieties of drinks can each coffee maker make?

We come to one of the most significant differences that distinguish each of the coffee makers, and that, from our point of view, justify the price difference. The most versatile coffee maker is the Philips Series 5400, with which we can automatically prepare up to 12 drinks (espresso, coffee, Americano, cappuccino, latte macchiato, short latte, latte, latte, café crema, Cortado, long espresso and infusion).

Secondly, the Philips Series 4300 can make up to 9 drinks, which are the same as the previous one except short latte, latte and long espresso. In third place is the Philips Series 3200, with 6 drinks (espresso, cappuccino, coffee, latte macchiato, Americano and infusion). And finally, the Philips Series 2200 can prepare 4 drinks (espresso, cappuccino, coffee and infusion).

User profiles, another exclusive difference of high-end coffee machines

Philips Series 2200 vs 3200 vs 4300 vs 5400

Continuing along the lines of the previous point, it is worth highlighting another function that we only see in the two coffee machines that we have considered high-end. We talk about user profiles. Basically, it is about the possibility of storing several profiles in which we can select the coffee with the settings we want. For example, if there are 4 people at home, each one can have their own personalized coffee with a single click.

Well, the Philips Series 5400 has 4 profiles plus the guest profile, while the Philips Series 4300 has 2 profiles plus the guest profile. In the case of the 3200 and 2200 models, we cannot choose several profiles, although we can customize the drink exactly as we want. The difference is that you don’t memorize it.

Intuitive touch screen in all

One of the qualities that the four Philips coffee machines share is that they all have a TFT touch screen that is really easy to use because it is so intuitive. This screen also gives them a more modern and technological touch that we always like, and that makes the coffee maker more attractive. Likewise, we confirm that all coffee makers have an ECO position to save energy, another plus point.

Which Philips coffee maker do we like the most?

Finally, we only have to decide which of the four Philips super-automatic coffee machines we would choose. As you can imagine, this depends a lot on what each person is looking for, so our decision does not have to be the best for you as well. It is evident that the Philips Series 5400 is the most complete and versatile of the four, but it is also the most expensive.

Now, is it worth it? If you like to vary and experiment by trying different coffees, or if you are 4 people at home, we would say yes. Keep in mind that, with the Philips 4300 (which would be our reasonable doubt with the 5400), you only have 2 user profiles, so it could be a better alternative for couples, but not for large families.

And, if you cannot afford to spend such a high amount of money, you may be wondering whether to choose the Philips 3200 or the 2200. In that case, we would opt for the 3200, although here the choice may also vary depending on the economic offers. If you get a very good deal on the Philips Series 2200 that makes the price difference wider, it could also be interesting. Ultimately, it has the four basic drinks we are looking for. As you can see, the choice depends on your preferences and the external and specific circumstances of each moment.
