Some design improvements, but not many

Samsung Galaxy A14 vs A13

Although the general design bears a certain similarity, and still that teardrop notch that we don’t like so much, we have found certain improvements of the Galaxy A14 5G compared to the Galaxy A13 5G. The main difference is that the Galaxy A14 5G already features the rounded plastic body of the Galaxy A13 5G, but has instead been replaced with a flat back.

In dimensions and design they are quite similar, although the new model is somewhat taller, longer and thicker. The screen is slightly bigger, but it’s not something very appreciable either.

Also, both models have the fingerprint sensor on the power button (located on the right edge) and the SIM/microSD card reader on the left side. At the bottom of the devices, we find a USB-C port, the speaker, and a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack.

Considerable screen improvement

One of the differences that has surprised us the most is found on the screen. The A14 5G boasts a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels in FHD, while the Galaxy A13 5G was limited to a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. The user experience is much more pleasant on the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G, since it offers a sharper and more defined image.

For the rest we speak of the two screens have PLS LCD technology and a refresh rate of 90 Hz.

Superior performance

Samsung Galaxy A13 vs A14

The Samsung Galaxy A13 5G integrates MediaTek’s Dimensity 700 processor. This chipset, manufactured in a 7 nanometer process, consists of eight cores that operate at a maximum clock frequency of 2.2 GHz. Although it is not an extremely powerful processor, it is not bad for a phone with these characteristics. For the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G, the company has chosen to use the Exynos 1330. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G, the Exynos 1330 processor offers significant improvements as it features two faster main cores, operating at 2.4 GHz compared to with the 2.0 GHz of the A13 5G. The other six cores run at the same 2.0 GHz speed on both devices.

As for RAM, both devices have 4 GB, but the Galaxy A14 5G offers an additional option with 6 GB. In terms of internal storage, both models come with 64 or 128 GB options.

Another point where the Galaxy A14 5G clearly wins is performance, with which this phone works faster and manages the battery better.

Same rear camera and improvements on the front

First of all, you should know that they are not the best models in terms of cameras. Also, there have been no improvements to the rear cameras on the Galaxy A14 5G over the Galaxy A13 5G. On the back, we find a 50 MP main camera accompanied by two additional cameras of two MP each: one for macro photography and another for measuring depth of field. The 50-megapixel main camera in good lighting conditions, you can get some acceptable photos, but in low light conditions the photos leave something to be desired.

The improvement in the photographic aspect is found in the front camera. The front camera of the Galaxy A14 5G has 13 MP compared to the 5MP front camera of the Galaxy A13 5G.

In summary, the Galaxy A14 5G camera set maintains a configuration similar to its predecessor, being suitable for photography in good lighting conditions, but presenting limitations in low light situations.

Battery and charge are maintained

Samsung Galaxy A14 vs Galaxy A13

Both devices come equipped with a standard 5000 mAh battery, giving them similar charging capacity and battery size. However, it is important to note that the Galaxy A14 5G has an increased resolution screen compared to the A13 5G, which could imply slightly higher power consumption. It is also true that this difference should not be very palpable.

When it comes to charging the phone, both are compatible with 15W fast charging through a USB Type-C input.

More time for updates

Samsung has been significantly improving the software support for the Galaxy A14 5G, which means that if you decide to buy it, you will enjoy updates for longer. When you buy the A14 5G, you will receive the Android 13 operating system out of the box. Specifically, you’ll get four years of security patches, ensuring that your phone will be protected and up-to-date until the year 2027. Still, this is a no-brainer when you consider that the Galaxy A13 5G was released a year earlier.

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G vs A13 5G – Do we recommend renewing?

If you already have the Samsung Galaxy A13 5G, the answer is no. On the other hand, if you have not yet opted for either of the two, we recommend buying the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G. The reason is that, both devices offer some attractive features in the mid-range, there are some important improvements.

The Galaxy A14 5G stands out with its more powerful Exynos 1330 processor, its improved graphics GPU and its higher resolution FHD display that provides a sharper visual experience. These enhancements are attractive to those who value higher image quality and better terminal performance.

Another small difference is that the front camera of the Galaxy A14 features more MP than that of the Galaxy A13. The rear cameras are the same, and if you place a lot of importance on the phone’s photographic prowess, we wouldn’t recommend either one. Although it is true that, in favorable light conditions, they get acceptable photographs.

That’s all, we hope this comparison has helped you decide.
