More modern design, but not quite

Samsung Galaxy A34 vs. A33

The first thing that catches our attention is the size and weight of these models. The Galaxy A34 is larger than the A33 and also 13g heavier because the screen diagonal has grown from 6.4 to 6.6 inches. When comparing them in hand, this difference becomes more evident.

In the design we find some changes aimed at presenting a more Premium aspect. With the naked eye, we can see that the Galaxy A34 has removed the raised part that protruded with the cameras on the back of the Galaxy A33.

One thing we don’t like that Samsung has continued on the Galaxy A34 is that the U-shaped notch is still present at the top of the screen, and with it, the thicker bezels reminiscent of older models.

Less resolution, but faster

The Galaxy A34 again a very nice Super AMOLED panel, similar to the Galaxy A33 in many ways, but with some notable improvements. Additionally, the A34 has bumped up the refresh rate to 120Hz instead of the A33’s 90Hz, which is a significant improvement in speed.

The IP67 certification and FHD+ resolution of the screen are also retained, although the Galaxy A34 has dropped the resolution from 2400 x 1080 pixels to 2340 x 1080 pixels.

Significant performance improvement

Here comes the highlight, the difference in performance. The Galaxy A34 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chip and is available in 6GB or 8GB RAM variants, with 128GB or 256GB storage options. In addition, it has a microSD card slot, which allows you to expand the storage up to 1 TB. On the other hand, the Galaxy A33 offers an almost similar experience, but with another processor (Exynos 1280) and only 128 GB of storage, also expandable up to 1 TB via microSD card. Both devices feature stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos and a 5,000 mAh battery that can last up to two days, depending on usage.

Samsung Galaxy A33 vs. Galaxy A34

As you can see, the most significant difference is the change of processor, which Samsung has done consciously. The goal is to provide the Galaxy A34 with a more efficient processor and it has succeeded. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy A34 is a model that offers better performance than the Galaxy A33.

What about photo quality?

The Galaxy A34 has removed the 2 MP depth sensor that was built into the Galaxy A33, as users don’t find it entirely useful. The other three sensors have been kept in the Galaxy A34 and have the same resolution: a 48 MP main camera with optical image stabilization, an 8 MP sensor for ultra-wide-angle shots, and a 5 MP sensor for macro shots.

It is important to note that the number of pixels on the sensors does not always translate into better image quality. Unfortunately, compared to last year, the overall performance of the camera has not shown a significant improvement. Although the main cameras of the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A33 are very good for daytime photography, they are not convincing in low light situations.

For its part, the front camera is practically identical in both models.

One more year of improvements and updates

The Galaxy A33 came equipped with Android 12 and One UI 4.1, although fully upgradeable to Android 13 and One UI 5.1. The Galaxy A34 comes standard with Android 13 and One UI 5.1.

Both the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A33 provide strong software support with regular updates, ensuring that users can enjoy the latest version of Android and Samsung’s custom interface for years to come. However, and for obvious reasons, since the Galaxy A33 has been on the market a year earlier, if you buy a Galaxy A34 you will enjoy an additional advantage: you will receive another year of updates. This means you’ll have access to new features and enhancements for a longer period of time on the latest model.

Same battery capacity

Samsung Galaxy A33 vs. A34

The batteries of the Samsung Galaxy A34 and the Samsung Galaxy A33 have a capacity of 5,000 mAh. In numerical terms, both models should have similar autonomy. However, the Galaxy A34 offers better performance and therefore it is not surprising if it has a somewhat longer autonomy.

Similarly, the charging speed is still limited to a maximum of 25 W on the Galaxy A34.

By the way, keep in mind that the charger is not included in any of the models.

Samsung Galaxy A34 or Samsung Galaxy A33? Which do we recommend?

In general, the choice between the Galaxy A34 and the Galaxy A33 will depend on your preferences and needs, considering aspects such as performance, storage and image quality. Both devices have their strengths and can provide a satisfying experience depending on what you’re looking for.

The Samsung Galaxy A34 features a number of significant performance differences, thanks to its MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chip and larger ROM options. Also, its screen is wider and has increased its responsiveness, thus offering faster operation. All of this makes it an attractive option for gamers and those looking for more powerful performance.

If you want a Smartphone for everyday use, the Galaxy A33 is more than enough. Furthermore, the photographic performance has not improved and continues to be poor on the Galaxy A34 when the brightness is not very high. Also, note that Samsung has done away with the depth camera on the Galaxy A34 as it’s not very useful.
