A little over 8 years ago, Amazfit was founded, a brand of Chinese origin that has been able to adapt to the market and offers smartwatches that have nothing to envy from leading brands such as Garmin or Apple Watch. Or, at least, that’s what they say, and we wanted to see what the real performance of their smartwatches is. To do this, we compare in this article two of its most complete models: Amazfit GTR 4 vs Amazfit GTR 3 Pro.

We were very surprised by the good opinions that both smartwatches garnered on Amazon, so we decided to try them to draw our own conclusions. The reality is that the Amazfit GTR 4 is a continuation of the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro, which is the model that has really taken a quality leap from the GTR 2. Still, don’t think that the GTR 4 beats the GTR 3 Pro in all benefits; in fact, we have been more than one surprise in this regard.

Aesthetically, they are two different watches, although the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro has more variety of options and styles than the Amazfit GTR 4, which is reminiscent of the most classic sports watches. And when it comes to sports performance, they’re pretty even, despite the fact that version 4 has some additional training mode.

How is your design?

When we think of a smart sports watch, there are many styles that can come to mind; in fact, this is one of the differences that is first perceived between these two smartwatches. Let us say that the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro has more variety of designs to choose from, and we can choose the watch with the leather or silicone strap. In the first case, the strap is brown, while the silicone version is more sober, in black. In addition, the dial has a very thin, almost invisible bezel, which greatly softens its appearance.

In the case of the Amazfit GTR 4, we can also choose the black silicone strap, dark brown leather, or gray fabric. However, the three options have a very similar aesthetic line, and it gives us the feeling that there is less change than in the case of the GTR 3 Pro. The dial, for its part, has a thicker bezel, with details in silver, and larger numbers that give a more aggressive feeling.

The screen decreases in size

The clock face or screen is the main element of it, and in this sense, we have been surprised to see that the size is slightly smaller in the Amazfit GTR 4. Now, the difference is so small that it is difficult for us to see it, since the GTR 4 has a diameter of 1.43 inches, compared to 1.45 inches for the GTR 3 Pro. We also perceive this minimal variation in the resolution, slightly higher in the GTR 3 Pro, while the screen technology is AMOLED in both cases.

How long does the battery of each smartwatch last?

The autonomy of sports watches is another of the most interesting features for users. However, to assess it, autonomy must be taken into account based on several things. For example, if GPS is activated, if they are in energy saving mode or if we make more intensive use. When it comes to the battery in standard use, the Amazfit GTR 4 works for 14 days, two more than the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro.

On the other hand, if we activate the GPS mode, the smartwatch with the best autonomy is the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro (35 hours compared to 25). This is because the GPS system that the Amazfit GTR 4 has is dual, which requires more energy. And, in battery saving mode, the Amazfit GTR 4 lasts up to 24 days, while the GTR 3 Pro lasts 30 days.

Let’s talk about sensors…

The next point at which we stop is the set of sensors that each smartwatch has, and we must place special emphasis on a specific one: the BioTracker sensor. It is a biometric sensor of which the Amazfit GTR 4 has a more updated version. Thus, the BioTracker 4.0 is capable of collecting 33% more data, and offers more precision than version 3.0, which is the one that the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro has. In both cases, the sensor’s main task is to carry out exhaustive monitoring of several metrics simultaneously.

Also, both smartwatches can measure blood oxygen saturation, stress level, heart rate and breathing rate. Regarding sleep measurement, either of the two Amazfit performs very complete monitoring, analyzing your sleep pattern and offering you the schedule that best suits your circumstances. What’s more, you will receive suggestions to improve your sleep cycle and, with it, your health.

Are there differences at the level of sports performance?

One of the reasons that leads many users to choose a smartwatch is to improve their sports training, and in this sense, they are also quite equal. In fact, both have a water resistance level of 5 ATM, which means that they cannot be submerged more than 50 meters. In addition, they have more than 150 sports training modes, with the Amazfit GTR 4 being the one that has some more, although not many.

On the other hand, both have the capacity to intelligently recognize 8 sports modes, so that if it detects any of them, it will make a suggestion to open the sport mode in question.

Other functionalities

As good smart watches, both Amazfit offer a great set of additional technological features, such as the ability to play music, manage calls and messages, check the weather or check calendar notifications, among other things. The only thing we miss in both cases is compatibility with NFC, the technology that allows contactless payments.

However, the battery life (except in standard use) is shorter, due to the fact that the location system is also more advanced.

Another aspect to take into account is the performance of both at the sporting level, but here we have to say that we have found hardly any differences. And when it comes to design, the decision comes down more to a subjective matter. In particular, the softer and finer aesthetics of the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro call our attention, but we recognize that the Amazfit GTR 4 is a perfect option for the most classic.
