The Amazfit brand continues its rise and consolidation process in the smart watch market, and continues to launch new products. Furthermore, it seems that it is following a strategy of positioning itself as one of the leaders in light and practical smartwatches, but with certain technological sophistications. Today we compare two of its most recent models that meet these conditions: Amazfit Active vs Amazfit GTS 4 Mini.

The Amazfit Active is the house’s new bet, and the truth is that we have been very pleasantly surprised by the good quality-price ratio it has achieved. To begin with, the GTS 4 Mini’s screen increases in size, but that does not make it a heavier smartphone, quite the opposite. There is also a slight improvement in autonomy, since the battery capacity of the Amazfit Active is a little higher than that of the GTS 4 Mini.

Added to this is the replacement of the ambient light sensor with a temperature sensor, and the incorporation of a speaker to be able to communicate with the smartwatch through Alexa and receive its responses. However, being two Amazfit smartwatches, they also share many similarities. In fact, in terms of sports performance and health monitoring, they have the same functionalities, except for some updates.

If you want to know what the exact differences are between these two smartwatches, just keep reading!

Same design with a larger screen

Amazfit GTS 4 Mini vs Active

The aesthetic line that we already saw in the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini is maintained in the Active, with some small details and changes. Above all, the button, which goes from the classic rotating crown shape to being a flat button, in line with the smart watches that are currently being marketed. The colors in which we can buy the two smartwatches, and the weight, also vary. It turns out that the Amazfit Active is much lighter to the touch than the GTS 4 Mini, something that wouldn’t surprise us if it weren’t for the fact that its screen is larger.

Specifically, we went from a 1.65″ screen on the GTS 4 Mini to a 1.75″ screen on the Active, the same size as the Amazfit GTS 4 screen. On the other hand, the Active is a lighter watch than the GTS 4 Mini, an achievement that can be important for those who practice high-performance sports and seek lightness and comfort.

Returning to the screen, it should be noted that the resolution is somewhat higher on the Active, because the size is larger. However, in both cases we are looking at a screen with AMOLED technology, so the outdoor brightness conditions are the same.

Small improvement in battery

Another important component in a smartwatch is the battery, since the total autonomy of the smartwatch depends on it. In this sense, the Amazfit Active has a 300 mAh battery, compared to the 270 mAh battery of the GTS 4 Mini. This translates into practically the same autonomy in standard use, but in a greater capacity for battery optimization in intensive use. To give you an idea, the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini can last about two weeks in normal use, and about 8 days in intensive use.

On the other hand, the Amazfit Active equals the duration in standard use, but in intensive mode it increases it up to 10 days. On the other hand, theoretically, the GTS 4 Mini is capable of extending its autonomy up to 45 days in energy saving mode, although it has not lasted more than 30 for us, just like the Active. As for charging time, they take the same, a couple of hours.

Sports performance and health monitoring, few changes

Amazfit Active vs GTS 4 Mini

If you use the smartwatch to monitor your physical activity, the truth is that we did not notice many differences between the Amazfit Active and the GTS 4 Mini. Both include more than 120 sports modes, and have a water resistance of 5 atmospheres, which means they can be submerged up to 50 meters. And in both cases, the watch can intelligently recognize a total of 7 sports, to offer you the metrics directly without you telling it to do so.

We do highlight a small novelty in the Amazfit Active, and it is the personal trainer function based on artificial intelligence. Thanks to it, you can review various reports about your activity and complement them with personalized suggestions aimed at improving your well-being.

Something similar happens with health control, which is practically the same in both cases. The only difference here is that the Amazfit Active includes version 4.0 of the BioTracker sensor, with which you can simultaneously monitor heart rate, blood oxygen saturation and stress level for 24 hours. The Amazfit GTS 4 Mini also includes this sensor, but in version 3.0. Are there differences? The GTS 4 Mini’s accuracy in monitoring heart rate is lower than the Active, but other than that, they are quite similar.

Apart from these metrics, both the Amazfit Active and the GTS 4 Mini can carry out exhaustive monitoring of sleep and the menstrual cycle, among other issues. As a curiosity, the Amazfit Active replaces the ambient light sensor that the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini had with a temperature sensor.

Incorporation of speaker and music storage, only on the Amazfit Active

Amazfit GTS 4 Mini vs Amazfit Active

One of the novelties that we have seen in the Amazfit Active is that, unlike the GTS 4 Mini, it allows you to store up to 250 MB of music inside. This way, you don’t need to carry your smartphone with you to listen to music, but you can do it directly on the smartwatch. In addition, it has a speaker in addition to the microphone. This allows you to receive responses from Alexa, in addition to sending orders directly in spoken form.

On the other hand, it should be noted that both smartwatches are compatible with Android 7 or higher, while, if you have iOS, there is some variation. The Amazfit GTS 4 Mini supports iOS 12 or later, but the Active supports iOS 14 or later.

More precise location

Finally, we look at another of the small improvements that Amazfit has implemented in the Active model, which has to do with location accuracy. Both models have up to 5 satellite position systems, but the Amazfit Active is based on a GPS antenna that is circularly polarized. This makes the precision of its GPS system much more exact and modifiable in real time, something that may interest you if you usually practice outdoor sports.

Is it worth switching from the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini to the Amazfit Active?

The truth is that the Amazfit Active has many small updates that, together, make this smartwatch a super functional and very practical model. Separately they could go unnoticed, but they are many small drops that, added together, make the glass fuller. The fact that the screen is a little larger, that the battery has a greater capacity, that it can locate more precisely, that it stores music or that it includes a function that allows you to complement your physical activity, are a set of improvements that In this case, we recommend the Amazfit Active.

Above all, because it is not a smartwatch that has skyrocketed in price, but rather maintains a very interesting quality-price ratio. Now, if you already have the Amazfit GTS 4 Mini, is it worth upgrading to the new one? Well, it depends on the extent to which you have shortcomings with the GTS 4 Mini. Within the range of Amazfit smartwatches, until the arrival of the Active, the GTS 4 Mini was one of our favorites, due to the good performance it offered at a very affordable price.

In short, only you can assess to what extent it may be interesting for you to switch to the Amazfit Active, if the GTS 4 Mini falls short, or if, for the moment, it is enough for you. We hope we have helped you!
