Oral brushing is one of the most important moments of the day, since maintaining oral hygiene is key to avoiding infections and gingival problems. And, without a doubt, the toothbrush is a fundamental tool that should not be skimped on. In this article, we tell you what the most important differences are between the four most advanced electric toothbrushes in the Oral-B iO range: Oral-B iO 10 vs 9 vs 8 vs 7.

Oral-B has been the leading brand in dental hygiene for years, and, in the iO range, it made a big leap from model 6 to model 7. From there, the evolution has been progressive, although they all have the same rotary and magnetic brushing technology. They also share the same autonomy, the type of head, a pressure sensor and are equipped with a practical travel case.

So what are the differences? Apart from the design and the colors in which they are available, the Oral-B iO has a black and white screen, which, in models 8, 9 and 10, is already in color. Although, without a doubt, the main difference is in the brushing modes that each brush has, as well as in the three-dimensional monitoring of brushing thanks to artificial intelligence. But, so that you can choose with all the information, we are going to analyze in detail in this article all the differences and similarities between the four Oral-B iO. Let’s go there!

Do they have the same brush?

Oral-B iO 10 vs 9 vs 8 vs 7

Yes and no. On the one hand, all four toothbrushes in the Oral-B iO range have the same shape and size. However, each one is available in several colors. The simplest is the Oral-B iO 7, which can only be purchased in black and white. Models 8 and 9 are also available in purple and pink, respectively. And, in the case of the Oral-B iO 10, the brand has decided to give it a more cosmic look with two printed design proposals.

What they do have in common is a travel case so that you can transport them without problem in case you go on vacation, and also for everyday use. On the other hand, in all four models we use the round Oral-B head, made up of microfibers with alternating directions that make brushing much more effective.

The screen, from black and white to color

All the electric toothbrushes featured in this review share an interactive screen that, in addition to being fun, is quite useful to know if we are brushing correctly. The Oral-B iO 7 has a black and white screen, while the Oral-B 8, 9 and 10 have an interactive color screen. What do we see on the screen? Well, for example, a smiling face when we are applying the appropriate pressure, or a welcome message when we turn on the brush. They are small details that make a difference.

How many brushing modes does each one have?

One of the main differences between Oral-B electric toothbrushes is the variety of brushing modes they have, which grows as we progress through the range. The Oral-B iO 7 has 5 modes; the Oral-B iO 8 has 6 modes, and the Oral-B iO 9 and 10 have 7 modes.

All brushes have the following modes: daily cleaning, sensitive, gum care, whitening and deep cleaning. The iO 8 adds the super sensitive mode, and the iO 9 and 10 add the tongue cleaner mode. Of course, the four electric toothbrushes work with Oral-B’s own magnetic technology. Thanks to it, the bristles exert a bidirectional rotating movement that intensifies the cleaning action much more.

The smart charger is an exclusive advantage of the Oral-B iO 10

In fact, it is the only difference with the Oral-B iO 9, which does not have the smart charger that the iO 10 does have. This model has the iO Sense charger, which, in addition to charging the battery, gives us much more information . At the base of the charger we can see our own mouth inside, in which the areas that we have already cleaned in depth are illuminated so that we can be more efficient.

On the charger itself we can also see if we are applying the correct pressure (in addition to through the lighting system present in all four models), and it has a small timer to make controlling the time more comfortable.

Sensors and 3D tracking

Another difference between the two newest electric toothbrushes and the rest is the three-dimensional tracking sensor reinforced with artificial intelligence. Specifically, the Oral-B 9 and 10 are capable of monitoring up to 16 areas in 3D, which makes brushing guided and the result more intense.

Instead, all four electric toothbrushes share a pressure sensor, which serves as a guide to know if we are applying the correct pressure or not. If this is the case, a green light illuminates. On the other hand, if the pressure is not adequate, we will see a red light. In addition, all of them notify us when it is necessary to replace the head.

Timer on all brushes

One of the most representative qualities of Oral-B electric toothbrushes is the incorporation of a timer that notifies us when we have reached the optimal dental cleaning time, which is two minutes. Every 30 seconds, the brush emits a small vibration, which, when it reaches two minutes, becomes longer. This way, we don’t have to worry about timing it manually. Also remember that in the Oral-B iO 10, you can also see this timer on the base of the charger.

Same battery life

Oral-B iO 7 vs 8 vs 9 vs 10

Oral-B has also not changed the maximum life that toothbrushes offer on a single charge. Although, from experience, this is more interesting when we go on a trip, because, the rest of the time, we usually have the brush on top of its base, and it is usually always plugged in. However, with any of them you will enjoy up to approximately 14 days of autonomy. And, if the battery runs out, it takes about 3 hours to fully recharge.

Compatible with a mobile app

Another similarity between the four brushes is that they can be optimized thanks to the Oral-B mobile app. By synchronizing them with it, you can obtain more detailed reports on each use, see tips to improve cleaning and view functions such as the timer or brushing monitoring. Therefore, all of them have Bluetooth, to be able to make this connection with the app.

So, which Oral-B iO electric toothbrush do we choose?

Now that you know what the differences are between the four brushes, it’s time to choose which one we would choose. As you can imagine, the price is different, with the Oral-B iO 10 being the most expensive. Remember that it is the only one that has a smart charger, and that, along with the Oral-B iO 9, it is the most innovative. In fact, there are two quite clear ranges within the iO series. Models 9 and 10 are the most advanced range, while models 7 and 8 are more affordable, although they lack some of the more technological features of their older brothers.

Which one is more worth it? Well, it depends on how much you are going to use the extra functionalities of the Oral-B iO 9 and 10. It seems to us that, when it comes to dental hygiene, they are all excellent. It is true that brushing with models 9 and 10 is more effective, because we can carry out a more exhaustive monitoring, but you have to think about whether it compensates you financially and if you can afford that expense.

Beyond that criterion, all four have the confidence that a brand like Oral-B provides, so you can rest assured if what worries you is oral hygiene.
