There are some market segments led by two large brands that have the best reputation. In the shaver market, one of them is Philips. Therefore, it is interesting to compare the differences and similarities between their own models; Only in this way can we verify the level of evolution and innovation that the brand introduces as time passes and new models are designed. That’s what we do in this article, in which we compare the most advanced Philips Multigroom series: the 9000, 7000, 5000 and 3000 versions.

In case you haven’t tried a Philips shaver before, this brand uses ascending numbering to identify its new models. That is, the 9000 shavers are newer than the 7000, and so on. But does this mean that the most recent ones are the most innovative? Or is it always worth opting for these new models? Not always, and to prove it, we have chosen four specific shavers, one from each series, and we have compared them.

One of the most important differences that can be seen at first glance is the number of accessories and guide combs that each model has, because it can determine the versatility of each shaver. For example, among these four Philips series, the 3000 is the only one that cannot be used to shave both the face and the body, but only the face. Likewise, the cutting system, battery life or the presence of more digital elements, such as the screen, are other differences to take into account when deciding which shaver to buy.

However, being four shavers from the same brand, they are not all differences. We have also identified some similarities. For example, all four include a precision trimmer, which is one of the accessories most in demand by users. And, if you usually go on trips, you can take any of them, since they are all equipped with a case that allows them to be easily transported. Do you want to expand the information and see which one best suits what you are looking for? Keep reading!

Accessories and parts: a key difference

Philips Multigroom 7000 vs 5000 vs 3000 vs 9000

Seeing the set of parts and accessories that each shaver is equipped with is one of the differences that is visible to the naked eye and that, in a way, determines the versatility of each model. We could say that there are two different levels in this sense. On the one hand, the Philips Multigroom 3000 is the simplest of all; In fact, it has 7 accessories and is the only one of the four that cannot be used to remove body hair, only facial hair. This is because it does not have the appropriate accessories for this, something that does happen in the 9000, 7000 and 5000 models.

Focusing attention on these three shavers, it would be logical to think that the Philips Multigroom 9000 has more accessories than the other two series, but the truth is that this depends on the model. That is, both the 9000 and 7000 series have options that include between 12 and 15 accessories (and even some with 20). However, in the four models that we have chosen, it is the 7000 series that is placed above, as it has two more accessories than the 9000.

Likewise, within the set of accessories, we find it especially important to look at the guide combs. They are the accessories that determine the length at which the beard remains after shaving. Therefore, they are measured by millimeters, so if you want a complete shave, you should choose a 0.5 mm comb. On the other hand, trimmers can also be a decisive element, although the most common thing is to prioritize the presence of a precision trimmer to review the sideburns. And, in this case, all Philips shavers have one. And, as an additional piece of information, we were pleased to see that the Philips Multigroom 9000 has a skin protector.

Cutting system and blades: another decisive element

In a shaver, there is no doubt that the most important part is the blade. And, therefore, the cutting system and shaving technology it has. The Philips Multigroom 9000 is equipped with OneBlade technology, one of the most advanced to shave practically any part of the body. The strength of this system lies in the coating on the blades, which are more sliding, and in their rounded tips, which adapt better to the contour of your face. Likewise, it moves about 200 times per second, which shows its great effectiveness.

Philips Multigroom 5000 vs 3000 vs 7000 vs 9000

In the case of the Philips Multigroom 7000 and 5000, they have DualCut technology. As the name suggests, it has double self-sharpening blades that cut in two directions. On the other hand, the Philips Multigroom 3000 has a blade that, although it is also made of self-sharpening steel, only cuts in one direction. This makes it the least effective of the four, and means that you will need to make more passes to remove all the hair.

How long does your battery last?

Another differentiating aspect between the four shavers is the autonomy of use and the time they take to charge. In fact, for us this last difference is more important, because it is what can really mean that our balance tips towards one or the other. The Philips Multigroom 9000 and 7000 have a range of up to 120 minutes of use. Taking into account that, with each shave, we can spend approximately 10 minutes, this gives us about 12-14 days. The Philips Multigroom 5000 lasts about 80 minutes, and the Multigroom 3000 has an autonomy of about 60 minutes.

And what happens with the loading time? While the 5000 and 3000 series take up to 16 hours to recover a full charge, the 9000 and 7000 series do so in one hour. This is where, from our point of view, Philips’s great leap in quality is. Imagine that you have to shave relatively urgently and you have no battery. With the Philips Multigroom 5000 and 3000, you probably couldn’t, while the 9000 and 7000 series charge at 16 times the speed. What’s more, these two shavers have a quick charge option in 5 minutes, unlike the 5000 and 3000.

Can they be used dry and wet?

Philips Multigroom 5000 vs 7000 vs 9000 vs 3000

In the case of the Philips Multigroom 9000, 7000 and 5000, yes, they support dry and wet use without any problem. For its part, in the Philips Multigroom 3000 you can only wash the accessories with water, but you cannot submerge the entire shaver. Therefore, if you decide on this model, you must remember to wash the accessories from the main body separately.

Screen and travel case, additional features

Before finishing the comparison, let us tell you that all four shavers are equipped with a very practical travel case to transport the shaver and its accessories. On the other hand, only the Philips Multigroom 9000 and 7000 have a small screen where we can see the remaining battery level or the indicator that warns us that it needs to be charged. It is not that this feature is important in operation, but it is a technological element that always adds up.

Which shaver should we choose?

Now we only have to choose which of these four shavers is most interesting, and, for that, it is essential to compare their prices. As expected, the Philips Multigroom 9000 is the most expensive. The main reason is because it is the only one that has OneBlade technology, the brand’s most advanced shaving technology.

However, we must recognize that the price difference compared to the Philips Multigroom 7000 is greater than we expected. Above all, taking into account that the 7000 series has more accessories, more guide combs and that it has a versatility that is difficult to match. That is, we did not think that it would be more expensive, but we did believe that its price would not be very different from that of the 9000 series.

In this sense, and leaving aside advances in shaving technology, the Philips Multigroom 7000 has a very good quality-price ratio. Although it does not have OneBlade technology, the double blade system it has provides a really good result without damaging the skin. In addition, the enormous variety of accessories and trimmers that this model has means that we can use it all over the body.

Therefore, our recommendation would be to choose between the Philips Multigroom 9000 and 7000, depending on whether you are looking for technology and innovation, or if you prioritize value for money. In any case, being both from Philips, we can guarantee that the performance of both is very high. Now it’s your turn!
