Shaving is one of those tasks that, whether we like it or not, we have to carry out periodically. The sensitivity of the skin means that we must be very careful with which blade or shaver we choose, because not all of them have the same shaving technology. Today we are going to show you a comparison between two Philips shavers that are highly demanded for their quality-price, and we are going to tell you which of the two seems more interesting to us. We are talking about Philips OneBlade vs Philips OneBlade Pro shavers.

In a first impression, we intuit that the Pro version will have more sophisticated qualities than the standard version. Especially considering that the price difference is almost half. Well, let’s see if these differences are enough to justify that additional amount to pay or if, on the contrary, it can be worth it with the OneBlade.

There are two main differences that stand out above the rest. The one that is most important to us is the autonomy, which is tripled in the Philips OneBlade Pro, while the charging time is reduced. On the other hand, we also find it very curious to see that the OneBlade Pro has four times more levels of beard length than the Philips OneBlade. In addition, there are other small issues to take into account, such as that only the Pro model has charging support, for example. How does the design change?

It’s actually quite easy to tell that the two shavers are from the same range, because the overall aesthetics are similar, although there are some noticeable differences. Perhaps the most obvious is that the Philips OneBlade Pro has a charging base that the OneBlade does not, and in terms of comfort when it comes to resting the blade, there is no color.

If we look at the aesthetic design as such, both blades are gray in color and in both there are details in corporate green, although they are more predominant in the OneBlade. This blade also has a more rounded shape than the OneBlade Pro, and although it is a matter of taste, I prefer the straighter shape of the Pro model. On the other hand, it is easy to see that only the OneBlade Pro has a screen on the front, just below the power button, whereas the OneBlade doesn’t have such a screen. The screen is useful, for example, to see how much battery is left.

Additionally, the OneBlade Pro is also equipped with a travel case, something we didn’t find on the OneBlade. If you usually travel, the truth is that it is appreciated to have a sheath to carry the blade so that it does not get damaged by rubbing against other things inside the toiletry bag. Of course, both have an additional replacement blade.

Same shaving technology

The two OneBlade blades have the same shaving technology, which Philips calls Dual Protection. It actually looks like a foil shaver, only with a motor included. The blades move laterally, which translates into a more efficient cut. This double protection system provides the blade with a sliding coating with rounded tips. And, so that you can visualize it better, it makes approximately 12,000 movements per minute.

In addition, they follow a “contour-following” movement, which means that they adapt perfectly to the contours of the face thanks to this flexibility. And for those wondering whether to shave wet or dry, both OneBlade shavers support either option.

More power, more lengths

Let’s see, now, the difference in relation to the power of the motor of each shaver and its energy consumption. To give you an idea, we went from a consumption of 2 watts on the OneBlade to 5.4 watts on the OneBlade Pro. And, although these may seem like very small numbers, consider that the OneBlade Pro has more than double the power. This, I tell you that it shows. Not only in the effectiveness of the shave itself, but in other relevant issues.

For example, the Philips OneBlade allows you to choose between 3 levels of beard length, which wouldn’t be bad, except that the Philips OneBlade Pro ups the ante up to 14 levels. This depends on which comb you use, and the one on the Philips OneBlade Pro has 14 lengths. It’s nice to have all this versatility, because the result is a shaver (two, in this case) with which we can trim the beard, shape it or shave it completely. Thus, you do not have to change accessories depending on whether you want to trim the beard, shave it completely, or remove body hair; just changing the comb is enough.

Autonomy, the other great evolution

We have reached what is, from our point of view, the most noticeable difference between the two Philips OneBlade shavers, autonomy. Here, we acknowledge that Philips has greatly improved the Pro model over the regular, both in terms of battery life and the time it takes to fully recharge. Mainly, because the Philips OneBlade has a nickel battery, while the OneBlade Pro’s battery is lithium-ion.

The Philips OneBlade has an approximate autonomy of 45 minutes, which, beware, is not bad for an electric shaver. The bad thing is that if the battery runs out, it takes about 8 hours to recharge. Actually, if you leave it charging overnight, you will find it full the next morning, but you have to remember to put it on charge.

And this does not happen with the Philips OneBlade Pro. Its autonomy is 2 hours, which is already a great improvement over the standard model. But, in addition, it only takes an hour to recharge, and this is where the great advantage comes into play. If you forget to charge the razor at night, you will only have to wait an hour to use it, while if this happens with the OneBlade, shaving will have to wait much longer.

How are the blades?

We now analyze the quality of the blades used by each shaver, and we can tell you that there are no big differences, because the quality is the same. In both cases we find two stainless steel blades whose useful life is approximately 4 months each. As with everything, the better you use it, the longer it will last. You don’t need to worry about this though, as a green light will illuminate when it’s time to change the blade to let you know.

Remember: the blade is the same on all Philips OneBlade. What really makes the difference in shaving is which comb you use to select the cutting length.

Portability, another differential point

As we’ve discussed before, the Philips OneBlade Pro is an easier shaver to travel with than the standard version. First of all, because it only has a travel case. But, also, because on the LED screen that it has, we can activate the lock to prevent it from turning on while we are traveling, as a result of a sudden movement that could accidentally start the shaver.

Completely. The Philips OneBlade Pro is a more versatile, powerful and functional shaver with which shaving is very easy, effective and fast. The increase in power is one of the differences that most influence the effectiveness, although it is not the most important. What really makes us lean towards this shaver is, on the one hand, the improvement that we noticed in battery life and charge and, on the other hand, the possibility of adjusting in 14 lengths, instead of the 3 offered by the Philips OneBlade.

Despite the fact that the OneBlade Pro is a more expensive shaver, the truth is that its value for money is very attractive compared to other models on the market. In addition, the quality of Philips blades is already well known, and it is always preferable to choose a proven brand that you know you can trust.
