Two smartbands, two very different designs

Xiaomi Smart Band 8 vs Huawei Band 8

In terms of design and construction, Xiaomi has stood out for its always versatile and stylish approach. The Xiaomi Smart Band 8 follows the tradition of previous Xiaomi generations, offering an elongated screen design. In addition, the Mi Smart Band 8 is distinguished by its variability of straps, which include leather, fabric and steel options, allowing you to customize its style according to your preferences. In addition, the inclusion of a lining with a ring provides the option of using it as a pendant, further increasing its versatility.

On the other hand, the Huawei Band 8 has a design more similar to that of a smartwatch, with a rectangular body and a 1.47-inch screen. Although its screen is slightly smaller than that of the Mi Smart Band 8, the rectangular format allows for better visualization of information. However, strap options for the Huawei Band 8 are limited to silicone and fabric in various colors.

Comparing the screens we see a clear winner

The Xiaomi Smart Band 8 stands out for offering a superior visual experience in several key aspects. Its 1.62-inch screen is not only larger, but also offers a higher resolution of 490 × 192 px compared to the 194 × 368 px of the Huawei Band 8, as well as a higher pixel per inch density. This higher resolution ensures sharper images and clearer details.

In addition, the screen of the Mi Smart Band 8 shines with 600 nits, surpassing the 500 nits of the Huawei Band 8. This increase in brightness ensures better visibility in sunlight conditions, making the Mi Smart Band 8 better for outdoor use when the day is sunny.

Finally, with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, the Mi Smart Band 8 screen is faster in response, which translates into smoother transitions and animations for a more pleasant user experience.

Same sensors and same functions, but one offers more sports modes

Both fitness trackers are equipped with optical heart rate sensors (PPG), blood oxygen saturation sensors (SpO2) and six-axis motion sensors. In addition, they offer sleep monitoring functions, female health tracking, inactivity alerts and anti-stress exercises.

However, the Mi Smart Band 8 stands out for its extensive set of sports modes, offering more than 150 sports modes, some of which are customizable. On the other hand, the Huawei Band 8 offers over 100 sports modes, which is still an impressive selection, albeit more limited compared to its competitor.

Which one offers more autonomy?

Thanks to its 190 mAh battery, the Mi Smart Band 8 can last up to 16 days with standard use, while the Huawei Band 8 offers up to 14 days of standard use with a 180 mAh battery. Furthermore, in Always-On-Display (AOD) mode, the Xiaomi Band 8 reaches an autonomy of 6 days, double what the Huawei Band 8 offers in said mode.

When it comes to recharging, the Mi Smart Band 8 takes approximately 1 hour to fully charge, while the Huawei Band 8 is fully charged in 45 minutes.

Connectivity and compatibility

The two bracelets are compatible with Android devices (from Android 6.0) and iOS (from iOS 12.0 for the Mi Smart Band 8 and from iOS 9.0 and EMUI 5.0 for the Huawei Band 8). In terms of connectivity, the Mi Smart Band 8 uses Bluetooth 5.2, while the Huawei Band 8 uses Bluetooth 5.0.

Conclusion – Which one are we left with?

The Mi Smart Band 8 offers greater versatility in terms of design and straps, a screen with slightly better resolution, brightness and speed, more autonomy and an impressive variety of sports modes. On the other hand, the Huawei Band 8 stands out for its rectangular screen format, which makes it easier to read information.

In short, our favorite model is the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 activity bracelet because it offers superior features to the Huawei Band 8. The only characteristic we found to opt for the Huawei Band 8 is if you like its design.

In any case, both activity bracelets offer a fairly complete set of features and functions, which makes them two top-selling models within their category.
