Thinking of electric toothbrushes is inevitably thinking of Oral-B. It is a company specialized in oral hygiene with extensive experience in the market. As a consequence of this trajectory, the range of models it has is really wide. Today we focus on three mid-range electric toothbrushes with a very interesting value for money: Oral-B iO 6 vs 5 vs 4.

It should be noted that, being Oral-B, quality and oral hygiene are guaranteed in all of them. However, there are a number of differences that can tip your balance towards one or the other. The Oral-B iO 6 is the most complete and advanced model, and has a series of features that the other two models lack. The most obvious is the interactive screen; in fact, this is maintained in models after 6.

For its part, the differences between the Oral-B iO 5 and 4 are more noticeable than we initially thought. For example, the 5 has one more brushing mode, and is capable of real-time monitoring of brushing in the 6 areas of your mouth. This tracking is done through the app and, although the Oral-B iO 4 has sync with the app, it lacks this functionality.

But, so that you can see for yourself which of the three electric toothbrushes best suits your search preferences, we show you a complete comparison and a final conclusion. Keep reading!

A very similar design

Oral-B IO 6 vs 5 vs 4

Oral-B electric toothbrushes are, in general, very similar on a cosmetic level. In this case, they can all be chosen in various colors, although we are very much in favor of classic white. In addition, they all have a round Ultimate Clean head, whose filaments are arranged diagonally to reach deeper into interior areas and, thanks to microvibration movements, intensify cleaning.

On the other hand, all three are equipped with a simple charging base and a travel case. Of course, they are not as technologically advanced as those of higher models, but they are enough to take your electric toothbrush on a trip. And, also, the three brushes include a light indicator that activates when it is necessary to change the head.

Battery: duration and charging time

The autonomy of the three Oral-B electric toothbrushes is the same, and lasts about two weeks, approximately. What varies slightly is the time they take to charge, an aspect in which the Oral-B iO 6 takes a leap compared to models 4 and 5. While these take about 16 hours to fully recharge their battery, the Oral- B iO 6 takes about 12 hours. Therefore, this time is reduced by about 4 hours, which is not bad.

How is brushing with each model?

Oral-B serie IO 4 vs 5 vs 6

We come to what is, for us, the main aspect to assess when we talk about electric toothbrushes. You already know that the three models use a technology based on microvibrations to clean. In addition, the Oral-B iO 5 and 6 have 5 brushing modes, compared to 4 for the Oral-B iO 4. We summarize, below, what they are:

  • Oral-B iO 6: Daily cleaning, Sensitive, Gum care, Deep cleaning and Whitening.
  • Oral-B iO 5: Daily cleaning, Intensive cleaning, Whitening, Sensitive and Extra sensitive.
  • Oral-B iO 4: Daily cleansing, Whitening, Sensitive and Extra Sensitive.

For one thing, the Oral-B iO 6 is the only one that has a specific gum care mode, something really useful for people with gum bleeding or similar conditions. On the other hand, the Oral-B iO 4 and 5 have the extra-sensitive mode, for a delicate and careful cleaning.

Pressure sensor

A common quality in all three electric toothbrushes is the pressure sensor that they incorporate, with which the brush itself analyzes whether or not you are applying the right amount of pressure. Not only that, but it also indicates it through the green or red light that the brush emits, so that you are clear, at all times, when you should press more or not.

Also, all three Oral-B toothbrushes have a two-minute timer, which is the ideal time dentists recommend for each brushing. To do this, they emit vibrations every 30 seconds as a warning, so that when the two minutes are up, they will become more intense.

Connectivity and real-time monitoring

Oral-B serie IO 5 vs 6 vs 4

Any of the three electric toothbrushes can be connected to the Oral-B app, as they all offer Bluetooth connectivity. However, only models 5 and 6 offer real-time brushing monitoring, unlike the Oral-B iO 4. In other words, in the app you can see brushing monitoring in real time in the 6 mouth positions in which it divides. This possibility makes the optimization of oral cleaning much greater.

Interactive screen, typical of model 6

Another unique feature of the Oral-B iO 6 is the addition of an interactive black and white screen. On this screen, you can see information such as brushing modes and the head change reminder, it greets you when it turns on, and it flashes a little smile when you’re applying the right pressure and therefore brushing correctly. The Oral-B iO 4 and 5 do not have this screen, which is only on models 6 and up.

Oral-B iO 6 vs 5 vs 4: Which electric toothbrush is more worth it?

Now that you know the differences and similarities between the three brushes, it’s time to choose which one is worth the most. It is logical to think that there are different prices between them, because they do not have the same benefits. And, to tell the truth, the value for money is good in all. The Oral-B iO 4 is the simplest and has one less brushing mode, but it is also the most economical. If you have not used an electric toothbrush before, it may be a good option to start with.

On the other hand, the Oral-B iO 6 is the most advanced, and this means that it is the most expensive. It incorporates features that its two rivals do not have, such as the interactive screen, and considerably reduces the loading time. And, in the case of the Oral-B iO5, it is somewhere between 4 and 6, bringing together some more advanced features but at a more affordable price.

Therefore, and considering that they are all Oral-B and the quality is guaranteed, it depends on your budget limitations and your preferences to choose one of the three. From our point of view, the Oral-B iO 5 is the one with the most interesting relationship between price and quality, although, as we have said, we cannot say that it is bad in any of them.
